By utilizing our IOP, our clients see real, tangible outcomes that help them regain control, build coping skills, and reconnect with their lives in a supportive community.

What Is an Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)?

To briefly explain, an IOP provides intensive and comprehensive behavioral healthcare to clients in need while being flexible enough to accommodate any schedule. Below the surface, an IOP offers more levels of care than what you might expect, and consists of several therapeutic elements working together for successful recovery.

Understanding the IOP Level of Care

At Driftwood Recovery, we believe in providing care that encapsulates every step of your recovery journey. This includes addressing the gap between inpatient and outpatient treatment, which enables a smoother transition back into normal daily life.

To further aid in this transition, our IOP offers an optimal balance between work, school, and family responsibilities. This allows you or your loved one to get the healthcare they need on the schedule that works best for them.

Those who are a good fit for an IOP in Austin are:

  • Clients transitioning from residential treatment, such as a partial hospitalization Program (PHP)
  • Those still needing extra support for addiction, substance abuse, and other serious mental health disorders, but don’t require 24/7 care

How Driftwood’s IOP Integrates with Your Recovery Journey

We know that it takes time to achieve lasting recovery. That’s why we are here for every step of the way, from initial inpatient treatment to outpatient services.

Transitioning from Residential or PHP

Integrating into our IOP involves a smooth step-down from higher levels of care, such as from a residential or partial hospitalization program (PHP). This allows clients to have continued access to a familiar clinical team to prevent any interruptions to care. As Driftwood Recovery offers multiple treatment programs, clients can remain in one place while continuing their ongoing connection with their peers and community.

Clients are never left confused or forgotten, as our team is with them throughout the transitional process.

Standalone IOP Enrollment

Not everyone needs inpatient treatment to meet their unique needs. Those with conditions severe enough to need intensive treatment, but not severe enough for inpatient care, are still suitable for IOP enrollment. It’s especially ideal for high-functioning individuals ready to commit to structured healing. We are committed to helping everyone start their recovery journey, which includes standalone IOP care.

Connection to Community Integration Program (CIP)

Aftercare is an essential part of the recovery journey at Driftwood Recovery. This includes our community integration program, which offers continued support to clients looking to establish connections to the Austin community. Clients can expect to interact with alumni groups, gain a mentor, or receive training with real-world applications. The CIP program is not just a place to practice life skills, but also a place to grow and expand as a person.

Location and Setting: IOP at South Congress CIP

Our CIP program is specially designed to help those healing from substance abuse and co-occurring disorders find their place in the world. Loneliness and isolation are a serious mental health concern that leaves individuals at risk for relapse and despair.

To combat this, Driftwood Recovery works to integrate clients into the community, helping them find roles that bring them meaning and joy. With purpose comes courage, growth, and healing, especially when clients learn how to give back and help others succeed.

Integrated smoothly with IOP treatment, clients receive whole levels of care that don’t just meet their healthcare needs, but their social needs as well.

Where Healing Meets Everyday Life

Located just south of downtown Austin, our CIP and IOP integrated programs provide a calm, beautiful space designed for reflection and engagement. Our CIP house is kept separate from the residential campus to encourage a real-world balance. Here, clients practice daily life skills, experience volunteering opportunities, or even receive career counseling. All of these directly contribute to comprehensive healing and continuous recovery.

Is an IOP Available to People Who Haven’t Done Residential Treatment?

Though an IOP is typically the next step after residential addiction treatment, you don’t have to start there to get the treatment you need. An IOP is designed to help people who need a higher level of care than what a normal outpatient program can provide, but don’t require inpatient treatment. If you are struggling with conditions like severe depression or anxiety, an IOP might be right for you.

How Is an IOP Different From Therapy Alone?

An IOP and individual therapy can be similar, but still have major differences. For one, an IOP is a treatment program that is made up of many therapies working together to provide comprehensive care, which can include individual therapy. It offers broader therapeutic and methodological options for frequent, intense treatment. An IOP also works best if the individual has a supportive environment at home to provide additional stabilization.

Individual therapy can be just as important to the recovery process, but is limited by what providers are trained and accredited in. A provider can offer psychotherapy, but if they are only accredited in providing psychotherapy, that’s all you can get unless they refer you to other specialized therapists. Individualized therapy is also less intensive than an IOP, with most clients only meeting once a week for an hour ot two of therapy. However, individual therapy focuses on individual attention that can still facilitate introspection and change.

Overall, individual therapy is perfectly fine for those in need of less intense treatment services. For those who need extensive and intensive mental health treatment, an IOP may be more helpful.

Driftwood Recovery treats only adults. If you need assistance finding help for a younger loved one, we can still point you in the right direction for specialized treatment.
