For some individuals, the transition from structured care to ongoing recovery may feel overwhelming. Clients in treatment for substance use disorder (SUD) and dual diagnosis benefit from participating in our community integration program (CIP). We ensure clients have a safe space to continue healing during treatment and aftercare. Our CIP at Driftwood Recovery provides peer support and additional accountability for clients and alumni.

Empowering Recovery Through Community Integration

Our program allows individuals to find a meaningful role in life while maintaining the foundation of new routines and behaviors created during treatment for substance abuse and mental health disorders. According to the Journal of Substance Use and Addiction Treatment, “A sense of purpose in life has been positively associated with mental health and well-being and has been negatively associated with alcohol use.” We encourage clients to find healthy activities that provide a sense of purpose during recovery from alcohol use disorder (AUD) and other forms of SUD.

Many people with substance use disorder struggle to maintain healthy behaviors and routines outside of residential and outpatient treatment. Our CIP services guide clients through creating essential social support networks and building critical life skills. The social support available through CIP and alumni services maintains client accountability and motivates people to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What Is Community Integration?

Community integration provides services that help clients build a life after treatment by introducing them to meaningful roles within the community. Clients learn the skills to become productive members of society through career coaching, volunteer opportunities, and continuing education.

How Driftwood’s Community Integration Program Supports Lasting Recovery

Driftwood Recovery offers various treatment programs to address substance use disorder and co-occurring conditions, including:

  • Residential treatment
  • Partial hospitalization program (PHP)
  • Intensive outpatient program (IOP)

All of our programs offer comprehensive clinical care. Clients participate in CIP services at every level of care.

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) at SoCo CIP

Our South Congress (SoCo) facility provides clients with intensive outpatient care. SoCo CIP offers vocational counseling and psychotherapy in an IOP setting. Individuals recovering from substance use disorder may need additional guidance and structure during outpatient care. Through our community integration program, we provide essential support and help clients develop healthy routines for maintaining positive mental health. Our intensive outpatient programs offer flexible care and personalized therapy. Clients learn leadership skills and stress management, allowing them to pursue different career and educational goals.

The Role of Peer Support in IOP for Sustaining Recovery

Peer support is essential in all stages of recovery from SUD and offers many potential benefits, including:

  • Emotional support
  • Reduced isolation and loneliness
  • Improved self-esteem and self-confidence
  • Reduced stigma
  • Increased self-awareness

Driftwood Recovery encourages peer engagement through group therapy, support groups, monthly workshops, and other community activities.

Overcoming Barriers to Reintegration

Some individuals experience challenges and face barriers during reintegration into society. For example, after completing treatment, individuals may experience discrimination that impacts their ability to find gainful employment. Some people may also face barriers to returning to school. Our community integration program prepares clients by teaching them essential skills. Clients learn to cope with life’s stressors and rebuild confidence while living with others who share similar experiences.

The community integration program addresses the following:

  • Social stigma
  • Employment
  • Education

Clients learn to build essential social skills to improve life satisfaction and reduce the risk of relapse during long-term recovery. We refer clients to community-based support services for education and employment services or opportunities. CIP offers a safe space where clients prepare for independent sobriety under the guidance of peers and experts in addiction recovery.

Driftwood’s Integrated Dual Diagnosis Treatment (IDDT)

Individuals with dual diagnosis benefit from integrative treatment combining therapeutic modalities for addressing substance use and mental health disorders. Treating all active conditions together instead of in parallel or consecutively often provides better outcomes.

Integrated dual diagnosis treatment does the following:

  • Makes it easier for clients to recognize connections between SUD and mental health conditions
  • Reduces symptoms related to SUD and mental health disorders
  • Decreases the risk of relapse by addressing all active disorders
  • Facilitates more significant healing and personal growth through combined therapeutic approaches

We use a person-centered model of community reintegration to guide clients and their loved ones through the different stages of treatment and recovery. Integrative care plans are personalized to ensure the best outcomes.

The Importance of Meaningful Roles in Recovery

We encourage clients to enter the workforce, further their education, or participate in local volunteer opportunities. Meaningful roles improve quality of life by allowing clients to learn new skills and practice existing skills in a new environment. Taking on new responsibilities also provides additional structure and accountability.

Many people find comfort in achieving gainful employment or pursuing educational goals. Fulfilling roles significantly reduces stress for individuals reintegrating into the community. A structured living environment allows people to create routines that support sobriety and enable them to participate in meaningful activities.

How Driftwood Recovery Supports Independent Living

Driftwood Recovery provides clients with the skills and resources to manage stress, anxiety, and SUD triggers during ongoing recovery. Peer support is an essential part of becoming a contributing member of society. Individuals in long-term recovery regain independence more quickly with the support of friends, family, and peers.

Peer support often plays a vital role in treatment and continuing care by doing the following:

  • Improving communication and social skills
  • Promoting healthy habits
  • Fostering positive mental health
  • Reducing the risk of relapse

The community integration program at Riverside House and SoCo prioritizes peer engagement and encourages clients to uplift and support one another to create a positive healing environment.

How Community Integration Improves Long-Term Recovery Outcomes

CIP improves long-term recovery by providing critical resources and tools. Our clinicians collaborate with clients and support their efforts to determine what activities are most appropriate for their current stage of life. Many clients pursue work, school, or volunteering goals as they reintegrate into society. We offer resources to ensure clients fully engage in a recovery program and find a place in the community. The experts at Driftwood Recovery provide information, referrals, and support services to ensure clients feel confident in their ability to maintain sobriety.

Our community integration program allows clients to continue healing during outpatient treatment and aftercare. To learn more about the programs and services at Driftwood Recovery, call our office today at (512) 759-8330.
